The question is when a weather event turns into a call. We analyzed call data from a multi-trade contractor in the Mid-Atlantic against the region's actual weather history to find out. The answer isn't "immediately," and it isn't the same across trades.

## The Lag, Trade by Trade

Our analysis revealed that during a week-long freeze this January (lows to -0.2&deg;F), plumbing calls ran 380-434/day. The single busiest day of the month wasn't during the freeze. It was the thaw, 38&deg;F: 582 calls, 43% above the freeze-day average, same weekday compared.

The other two trades follow the general shape:

## The Playbook

- **Match the trigger to the trade.** One "bad weather, show ad" rule doesn't cut it. Fire on the thaw for plumbing, the multi-day streak for HVAC, 24-48 hours after heavy rain for drains, same-day as the storm for electrical emergencies.

- **Get generator and panel campaigns running before hurricane season starts.** People call once they lose power, that part's reactive. However, installs take 2-6 weeks, longer once the season backs up. Whoever's already running campaigns wins the call.

- **Don't stop after the first event.** A freeze, heat streak, or heavy rain can repeat in the same season. A campaign that turns off after the first one misses the second.

The signal worth acting on isn't "it's hot" or "it's raining." It's the streak, the thaw, the day or two after heavy rain, the spring before hurricane season. Build the calendar around that, not the headline.
